We are actively looking for mad scientists to help us push Shard to its absolute limits. While the current prototype is playable on Itch, all future development, experimental updates, and new features are moving exclusively to Steam. If you want to get your hands on our newest mechanics and directly influence the ultimate arms race, we need you in the test lab.

🛠️ How to Join the Test Lab

Because we are transitioning our pipeline to Steam, all alpha testing keys, build distribution, and feedback loops happen entirely through our community hub.

  2. Head over to the #become-a-tester channel.
  3. Grab your tester role, grab your Steam playtest access, and help us break the game!

Shard is a fast-paced, top-down bullet-hell roguelite where your greatest weapon is your ability to break the sandbox. Collect fragments from fallen enemies, pause the chaotic action mid-fight, and open your drag-and-drop workbench to manually craft and modify your active abilities on the fly.

Combine conflicting elemental forces like Fire and Ice to trigger massive, screen-clearing Shatter AoE explosions, or stack modifier chains like Nova ➡️ Homing ➡️ Detonate ➡️ Split to shred through everything in your path.

⚔️ The Dev Philosophy: Go Ahead, Break the Game

We don't believe in boring stat nerfs. If you discover a god-tier, completely broken synergy, we want you to use it and feel unstoppable. To balance the scales, we aren't watering down your power—we are ramping up the opposition. Future updates focus on escalating enemy density, aggressive stat scaling, and complex enemy variety designed to survive your onslaught and actually kill you if you slip up. It’s a true arms race.

  • Dynamic Mid-Fight Crafting: Drop enemy fragments and use the real-time workbench to attach modifier families (Chain, Homing, Split) to core spell bases.
  • Risk/Reward Decrafting: Swapping modifiers from empty spaces is easy, but re-arranging active builds requires managing a tense shard economy.
  • The 5-Minute Gauntlet: Survive a brutal survival prototype, optimize your build, and defeat the final boss.
  • Ironman Mode: Test your mechanical skill in a high-stakes permadeath run.
